Partner visa & Prospective Marriage visa for Australia
If you are an Australian Citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is in a relationship with a person who is not an Australian Citizen or permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor them for a Partner visa which will enable them to live with you in Australia as your partner permanently.
You may be able to choose one of the following pathways to sponsor your partner to come to Australia, remain in Australia and live and work permanently in Australia.

Parent visa
Parent visas are designed to allow Australian Citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parent to come to Australia to live permanently. The Australian visa system has two options for parents wanting to be sponsored by their children–contributory and non-contributory.
Contributory parent visas – involves paying a very high visa application charge which is designed to compensate the Australian Government for health care costs to support the elderly.
Non-contributory parent visas – relatively much lower visa application charge, however the processing time for this option can stretch into decades.
Temporary parent visas –this visa option lets a parent to live in Australia for up to 3 or 5 years.

The General Skilled Migration (GSM) program for skilled visa options is points-tested and the visa applicant must score a minimum of 65 points to be eligible to receive an invitation. The visa applicants will also need to be aged between 18 and 45, have positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation, have ‘Competent English’ or higher and meet health and character requirements.
The applicants are required to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Australian Government and only upon receipt of an invitation the applicants can proceed to apply for the skilled visas.
Skilled Independent Subclass 189 visa
This is a permanent visa that enables an applicant to secure permanent residency in Australia on their own individual merits. Due to the competitive nature of the visa subclass, the points threshold variesfor different occupations and scoring the minimum of 65 points will not guarantee an invitation by the Australian Government.
Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa
This is a permanent visa which requires nomination by a State or a Territory Government of Australia. Each State and Territory Government have their own requirements that must be met to receive a successful nomination. Successful invitees are also offered an additional 5 pointsthat can be claimed during the visa application process.
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Subclass 491 visa
This visa has been introduced by the Australian Government to meet the skills shortages that are being experienced in regional and rural areas of Australia. This visa has a pathway to Permanent Residency once the holder of the visa has lived and worked in a designated regional area for at least three years. This visa requires a nomination by a State or a Territory Government of Australia or will require you to be nominated by an eligible relative residing in a designated regional area of Australia. Successful invitees are also offered an additional 15 points that can be claimed during the visa application process.

Temporary Graduate Visa
This visa allows recently graduated Australian students to obtain a work visa in Australia for up to 4 years. It is a common pathway for visa applicants who are aspiring to secure permanent residency in Australia.
Resident Return Visa
This visa is designed to allow Australian permanent residents who have left Australia to return to Australia. The travel facility on a permanent visa generally expires after 5 years, which means that when they leave Australia and attempt to return, they must hold a visa and under these circumstances, a resident return visa maybe granted. In cases where absence from Australia is significant, the visa applicant will be required to submit additional evidence to demonstrate necessary ties to Australia and justify the grant of a resident return visa.
Visitor Visa
This is a temporary visa that allows people from other countries to trave to Australia as tourists, for business or to visit family.
Bridging Visa
This visa is available only for visa applicants who are in Australia. This type of visa is used to “bridge” the gap between once visa to another. For example, when the visa applicant applies for a visa category, that application may not be decided for months. In the meantime, the old visa may expire and in such an event, a bridging visa is granted to keep the visa applicant ‘lawful’ in terms of immigration status.
Bridging visas can be complex and people who fail to secure a bridging visa properly can face severe action by the Australian Government and in extreme cases, may face deportation.
Working Holiday Visa
This visa is designed to allow young people (aged 18 – 30) to come to Australia on a working holiday and is usually valid for 12 months. Not all passport holders are eligible and there are special criteria that will apply depending on which country the visa applicant is from. This visa can also be extended for a further 12 months subject to the visa holder meeting additional requirements.
Temporary Activities Visa
This visa is designed for short stary for visa applicants to work in particular positions such as elite sports players, religious workers, researcher, entertainment activities, invited participants. youth exchange programs, domestic work, superyacht crew and Australian Government endorsed events. This visa can be useful for short stays where the person is coming to Australia for a particular function that fits within the accepted categories of this visa.
Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa
This highly specialised work stream lets visa applicants do short-term work in Australia for up to three months. Under special circumstances, this visa can be granted for six months. The visa applicant will need to demonstrate that the employer cannot find suitable Australians or permanent resident to perform the work and there is something peculiar about the work that prevent locals from being able to do it and the work is defined for a period of time.
Medical Treatment Visa
The medical visa is designed to allow someone who is in need of medical attention to receive that medical assistance in Australia. This can happen whether the applicant is onshore or offshore. Generally, these visas are granted to people who have medical treatment or medical consultations in Australia, donate an organ or support the person who is having medical treatment in Australia.
